Genotypic variation in nodule enzymes activity for SNF among common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes grown under salinity constraint

Résumé

symbiotic association with the rhizobia. These organs provide the necessary nitrogen for the plants growth and the development and contribute to the improvement of nitrogen level in the soil. Thus this symbiosis could replace the chemical fertilizer applications, which are expensive and polluting the environment. In spite leguminous species, especially common bean, is limited by several biotic and abiotic constraints. In the Mediterranean basin, salinity represents one of the most disturbing factors for growth and yield of nitrogen fixing leguminous plants. The experiment was carried out in a controlled temperature greenhouse at the "Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique" in Montpellier, France, in hydroaeroponic culture, with seven replicates, comprising four bean genotypes (115, 147, 104 and 83) and two NaCl stress levels (0 and 25 mmol NaCl plant−1 week−1) in nutrient solution. Root seedlings were inoculated with Rhizobium tropici CIAT 899 and RhM11 strain and plants were grown in 1-l bottles. Nodule samples were detached from 30-day-old plants and enzyme activities (Phytase, Phosphatase and Trehalose phosphate phosphatase) were determined in crude extracts. This work intended to measure the activities of acid phosphatases, phytases and Trehalose phosphate phosphatase in nodules of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) genotypes at different levels of NaCl stress. The results showed that inoculation using Rhizobium tropici CIAT 899 and RhM11 strain under salinity constraint improved the studied parameters (Plant growth parameters and enzyme activities) for some cultivars and without effect for the other ones.
