The anabolic effects of insulin-like growth factor-1 on skeletal growth and development: lessons from clinical and animal studies

Résumé

Skeletal growth and maintenance is complex, involving developmental regulators and metabolic hormones. However, many case studies and a large number of investigations in rodents and other species have shown unequivocally that the growth hormone (GH)–insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) pathway is the major axis controlling linear skeletal growth.
