Effect of the feed distribution mode in a strategy of feed restriction : effect on the feed intake pattern, growth and digestive health in the rabbit
Résumé
This study (2 trials) deals about two feeding factors: a feed restriction of 75 % of ad libitum intake, and the daily number of feed distribution (1 vs 13). For restricted rabbits, the circadian pattern of the intake (46 days old) showed that 1/3 of the ration was eaten within two hours after distribution once a day and the whole ration in less than half a day. At the end of the restriction period, the live weight of restricted rabbit (at 51 d.) was 17 % lower (P < 0.001) compared with control, but the feed conversion was significantly improved by 3 % (trial 1, P = 0.028) and 10 % (trial 2, P < 0.001). A feed distribution in 13 times a day tended to decrease the morbidity rate by 40 % (P = 0.056).
